Barcelona 5 – 0 Depor

By: Paddy | January 19th, 2009

Well what can one say about that? It was a masterclass from the Barca lads and I don’t think anyone would have been able to cope with them on Saturday. Lionel Messi, Eto’o twice and Henry twice did the damage.

I don’t want to say too much more on the game, but as if to rub insult to injury, Andres Guardado ruptured a ligament and looks like he will be out for a month. Dani Aranzubia will miss a few matches too now having got sent off for taking down Carlos Puyol

At least we still have a nicer kit than them.

Deportivo have now lost their last four games and Miguel Lotina is suitably concerned.

“Apart from Madrid, we have lost too easily against the top teams,” he said. “We lack a little self-esteem after these losses, and if we didn’t already have 30 points, I would be very worried.”

Out of the cup too, but not bothered about that, nor was Lotina with the team he picked, although Anthony over at the Sevilla Offside seems to be getting very excited about the whole thing.

Getting embarrassed in the UEFA Cup when you were expected to win it will do that. I feel like the Copa del Rey is the only shot we have at winning something this year because God knows the league is already won. It will at least make up for the fact that we really fucked up in Europe. Champions league qualification is important too though.

I laughed pretty hard when Rodriguez was put between the sticks for the Eto’o PK. Poor bastard. And Sammy’s hug after scoring was pretty adorable too. Would it have been too much to ask of good old Sam to have intentionally missed, given that Barcelona were already 4 goals up and Depor was down a goaltender?

john: It looks like he really wants to win the Pichichi award this year so yeah to him it would have been too much lol.

He actually looked mad when Messi scored himself that goal instead of passing it to Eto’o.
